We can always use new help!!
Each year, we typically experience periods of hot weather. Normally we do not cancel games due to hot weather in St. George.
However, we leave that up to the Convenor of that night, and on occasion games have been called off. Our preference is to play shorter halves and/or have increased subsitutions and water breaks. This practice follows what the Ontario Soccer Association provides in their article that discusses how to stay hydrated and avoid injuries when playing in hot weather. A link to their article is provided here:
Have you registered for the 2013 St.George Soccer outdoor season yet? If not, you can register by clicking on this link [REGISTER].
Secondly, I’d like to draw your attention to something new our club is trying out this year:
St. George Soccer Club is pleased to announce a year of partnership with Challenger Sports, providers of North America’s most popular soccer camp, to host the week long British Soccer camp during the week of July 15th - 19th at Sunny Hill Field, 87 Sunnyside Drive, St George, ON N0E 1N0
The camps will run Monday through Friday and each child will be coached by a member of Challenger’s British coaching staff flown to Canada exclusively to work on these programs. Challenger will hold over 3,500 British Soccer Camps this summer and will coach over 120,000 players between the ages of 3 and 18, as well as completing FREE coach education clinics for over 30,000 parents and coaches.
Challenger’s British Soccer Camp is more than a week of drills and skills. In addition to taking part in a daily regimen of foot skill development (through the 1,000 touches curriculum), technical and tactical practices and daily ‘World Cup’ tournament style plays, each child will be treated to a rich cultural experience and lessons on respect, responsibility, integrity, leadership and sportsmanship. Each camp is custom built to meet the needs of your players so Challenger will be directed by the organization on the content of the camp that they too require.
Each camper will receive a FREE camp T-shirt, soccer ball, soccer poster, individual skills performance evaluation and free access to an educational soccer website. In addition, any child who signs up online by May 31st will receive a genuine British Soccer replica Jersey valued at $39. For further information please visit www.challengersports.com.
Registration to the camp is completely separate from your league registration. The link to the camp registration system is here:
Again, this is something new for our club this year. We feel it offers a great opportunity for young players to develop skills beyond what the club will teach. If you have any questions, please feel free to email the club at firstname.lastname@example.org
We’re happy to announce that registration for the 2013 outdoor soccer season is now open. Registration is completely on-line now, and you can start the process by clicking here.
If you utilized the online system last year, you’ll find that your player(s) is/are automatically placed into their eligible divisions. However, for additional clarity, please see the attached flyer for information on the different divisions available, and for the contact information of our Registrar, should you have any questions with the registration process.
The St. George Soccer Club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Thursday October 25th, 2012 in the Community Room of the South Dumfries Community Center (aka St. George Arena).
If you’re interested in becoming part of the Executive Committee, or if you would just like to hear what it’s all about, come on out and learn about your local soccer club.
The meeting minutes from last year’s AGM are attached here (SGSC AGM Minutes 2011) for review.
The agenda for the 2012 AGM will be posted 1 week prior to the meeting.
With the mini leagues now wrapped up, I’d like to take another moment to thank you – the parents and players of St.George Soccer. Our club is strong, and that is all because of you.
As mentioned this week, in order to keep the Club strong, and to enable it to grow, we are looking for energetic volunteers that are good with people. If you would like to help out on our Executive Committee, please drop us an email. Our address is email@example.com
Indoor registration starts soon – more information can be found here
Finally, don’t forget to follow us on Twitter. Thanks, and we hope to see you again next year (sooner if you join the Exec (wink wink)).
